Short answer: Konami calls SILENT HILL: Townfall "a new entry in the SILENT HILL series", and the Steam listing describes it as a "full-length, self-contained psychological horror". It has its own setting (St. Amelia, Scotland, 1996) and its own protagonist (Simon Ordell). When asked whether it references the town of Silent Hill, the developers did not say.
This page only covers what official sources and named media outlets have reported. We do not list fan theories.
Quick Answer: Where Townfall Fits
- A new entry with a self-contained story. Konami's announcement calls Townfall "a new entry in the SILENT HILL series". The Steam store page calls it "a full-length, self-contained psychological horror set against the cold, isolated backdrop of Scotland, 1996." (Sources: Konami, Steam)
- Described as a spin-off. Game Informer (Kyle Hilliard, February 12, 2026) calls it "the Silent Hill spin-off from Konami, Annapurna, and Screen Burn". The same article notes that Townfall was announced in 2022 as the planned start of an anthology Silent Hill series, and says it is unclear whether that is still the intention. (Source: Game Informer)
- A new place and a new lead. The game is set on St. Amelia, which Konami describes as "a remote island off the coast of Scotland", and you play as Simon Ordell. It is developed by Glasgow studio Screen Burn Interactive and co-published by Annapurna Interactive and Konami. (Sources: Konami release-day news, Konami)
- Not set in the town of Silent Hill, as far as reported. Nerd Reactor, after a Summer Game Fest 2026 presentation, wrote that like Silent Hill f the game "is not set in Silent Hill, from what we can tell so far." (Source: Nerd Reactor)
- No plot link reported by Game Rant's preview. After about three hours of hands-on play, Game Rant's writer said Townfall "isn't directly connected to the plot of any other Silent Hill games from what I can tell". This is a preview impression, not a developer statement. (Source: Game Rant)
- First full-length first-person entry. Konami says Townfall is the first title in the series to be a full-length game presented entirely in first person. (Source: Konami release-day news)
Konami's announcement and the Steam page say Simon is "called back" to St. Amelia. Konami's release-day news calls him "an outsider", and director Jon McKellan told TheGamer that Simon has "not been there before". We report both and do not pick a side. What the Developers Have Said
The main voices are Jon McKellan (writer and director, Screen Burn Interactive) and Motoi Okamoto (Silent Hill series producer, Konami).
- "Still feels like Silent Hill." McKellan told Game Rant (July 31, 2026): "There are shades of Silent Hill 2, shades of P.T., but we start to subvert those expectations as Townfall plays out." He added that by the end, players should feel Townfall is "completely unique to the rest of the series, but still feels like Silent Hill." (Source: Game Rant)
- Its own social commentary. Okamoto told Game Rant there are "definitely many ways" Townfall is similar to Silent Hill 2, but that it has "its own take on social commentary", looking at the individual, society at large and the impact of corporations. (Source: Game Rant)
- Konami's internal "bible". On the PlayStation Blog (July 30, 2026), Okamoto said Konami has an internal "bible" or storyline guidelines, but asks each development team to analyze the series and build their own. (Source: PlayStation Blog)
- No link to The Short Message. In the same interview, Okamoto said there was no direct exchange of know-how with Silent Hill: The Short Message, and that both games using first person was "purely coincidental." (Source: PlayStation Blog)
- Why the series keeps moving. Okamoto told TheGamer (September 1, 2026) that taking the project outside Japan "was an intentional choice", and that different locales give each game a fresh perspective. (Source: TheGamer)
- Questions about the town of Silent Hill. When Nerd Reactor asked whether the game would reference the town of Silent Hill, the reporter wrote that the team was "secretive about that." (Source: Nerd Reactor)
Endings and Canon
- Five endings. In a roundtable reported by Collider (July 29, 2026), McKellan said Townfall has five endings: three available on a first playthrough and two secret endings in New Game+. (Source: Collider)
- No canon ending. Okamoto told Collider: "From our perspective, we don't designate any single ending as the true canon ending." McKellan said: "I don't think there's a canon of this is what happened." (Source: Collider)
- Decided by how you play. McKellan told the PlayStation Blog that the endings "aren't determined by a simple binary choice at the end." Okamoto said all three main endings can be reached on a first playthrough, a structure he compared to the original Silent Hill and Silent Hill 2. (Source: PlayStation Blog)
In the PlayStation Blog interview, Okamoto refers to "the secret ending" (singular) unlocking after one clear. McKellan's Collider interview and launch guides describe two secret endings in New Game+. For what triggers each ending, see our All 5 Endings Guide.
References to Earlier Games
Story links: We have not found a reliable source confirming that Townfall's story features characters, places or events from earlier Silent Hill games. When asked, the developers did not say. Until a named source documents one, we do not list theories here.
Series features named in official material:
- The radio returns as the CRTV. The Steam page says: "The iconic SILENT HILL radio makes a comeback as the CRTV, a portable television device." (Source: Steam)
- The Otherworld. The PlayStation Blog (September 16, 2026) describes a shift "from the blue-grey fog to the bright red Otherworld". Kotaku's review (Reid McCarter, September 21, 2026) calls these areas the "nightmare landscapes" of the series' longstanding otherworlds. (Sources: PlayStation Blog, Kotaku)
Callbacks noted by reviewers (their reading, not an official list):
- VGTimes' review (Dmitry Kartashov, September 25, 2026) says Townfall's Otherworld "clearly references previous entries in the series", and that a phone company logo references the save points from the original games. Save points in Townfall are phone booths. (Source: VGTimes)
Easter eggs and ARG: We have not found a named, reliable source that documents an easter egg list or an official ARG (alternate reality game) for Townfall. We will add them here only if one appears.
